Taking care of my son and a "son"

I am a new and first-time father. My son Quuqu is one year one month old. I love him very much. He has completely changed my perception about life. I now pay attention to Child Savings and Investment plans adverts on TV and radio. I know i should have started on this journey a long time ago.

I have to be awake very early to do a few chores before Quuqu wakes up otherwise all preparations to go to work will delay. At least now i am able to change a diaper and sometimes babysit while my wife goes to work or to town.I am not complaining because i love him and my wife and i know they love me in the same measure, if not more, for the 'little" help i offer.

The main thrust of this piece is to tell you how i also take care of a "son"  i have at home, which has also affected and changed my life. I brought him home at a cost running into some hundreds of GHC. I read alot about him before bringing him home. He took a ride in our Toyota Corolla car through the bumpy surburbs of Odorkor, Darkuman, Tesano, Achimota before we finally arrived home at Dome. Gosh! He had defecated in the car which i needed to clean before going to bed. I needed to use a feeding bottle to feed him else he will go to bed on an empty stomach. Tried as i did he will not eat. I nearly cried. Hurray! my heart leapt with joy when he started eating and stared at me. Oh my "son", please eat for me, i said. I can't afford to loose you, not because you cost me alot of money, but because you are part of the family now.

Which "son" am i talking about ? Find out more in subsequent posts in the coming days..................................

HR Statistics

What kind of data do you collect in your HR practice? Most HR ( I stand for correction though) do not take time to systematically collect data on the roles and functions they perform. For example, when was the last time you tracked the success rate of your chosen medium of recruitment? Do you get your best hires from your professional network or from online advertisement or newspaper postings, etc?

It is very important that as an HR Practitioner you spend time to think through the importance of data, analyze what data you collect, how important it is/ they are and how it affects your operational cost and the overall strategic positioning of your department.

More on this later.

About Let's Talk

Choosing a simple title for my blog was not as easy as i thought. In one breath i felt like writing on only human resource management practice issues because that is what i have been doing since 2002. However, i realized that there is more on my mind than just HR. Issues about sports, the economy, education, child care, youth development, personal social responsibility, etc are all part of my daily thinking and so i decided to broaden the scope of my writing areas.

So i welcome all who will be following my writings. Please enjoy it and don't hesitate to join in with your comments and contributions.

Welcome and Let's Talk!
